We are a club with professional heritage, a clear pathway for young players and a strong commitment to our community.
A New Chapter
Formed in 2006, Reading FC Women quickly rose through the divisions and, in 2015, secured promotion to the FA Women’s Super League – the top tier of English women’s football. After a period of transition, the club is now embarking on a new chapter in the Premier Division of the Southern Region Women’s Football League.
Working in partnership with Reading FC Community Trust, our focus is on building a sustainable, ambitious women’s programme that combines performance on the pitch with genuine impact off it.

Our History
Reading FC Women have already played a significant role in the modern women’s game from rapid early progress and top-flight football to today’s community-focused new chapter. Here’s how the journey has unfolded so far.
Formation & Early Rise
2006–2013
Reading FC launched a women’s team in 2006 and quickly progressed through the regional leagues, establishing themselves in the Women’s Premier League structure. During this time, the club also began developing a clear youth-to-senior pathway and secured a place in the newly formed second tier of the women’s pyramid.
Top-Flight Ambition
2014-2022
Reading competed in the national second tier before earning promotion to the FA Women’s Super League in 2015. The club went on to achieve strong league finishes and notable results including in the FA Cup, building a reputation for ambition, resilience and consistent top-flight competitiveness.
Transition & Reset
2023-2024
A difficult spell led to voluntary relegation and a wider restructuring of the women’s programme. Reading stepped away from the fully professional tiers and re-entered at Tier 5, moving home matches to Arbour Park and shifting focus towards long-term stability and sustainable operations.
Community & Pathway Focus
2024-Present
Now operating under Reading FC Community Trust, the programme has strengthened its pathway through the Emerging Talent Centre and Girls’ Academy, expanded community sessions and school partnerships in order to support wider access to football, guided by the club’s core values.
From Local Leagues to a New Chapter
Our Story So Far
Our story has taken us from local leagues to the top of the women’s football pyramid and back into a new, community-driven chapter. This journey, shaped by progress, challenges and growth, now moves forward together with our players, staff, supporters and partners as we write the next steps collectively.
The Road Ahead
The Future
The club is ambitious in its aim to compete at Tier 5, grow matchday support at Arbour Park and increase the number of home-grown players progressing into the First Team. With longer-term goals including expanding community impact and building a sustainable route back to higher levels of the women’s game.
